KLAUS MIKAELSON
HE LIKES TO MAKE AN ENTRANCE
ABOUT
AGE—Likely born before 990 A.D., Klaus is over 1,000 years old. He eternally appears to be in his early to mid-twenties.
VISUAL—Klaus Mikaelson is five feet, eleven inches and of medium build. He has light brunette curls, constant scruff, blue eyes, and dimples. When he is exhibiting vampire/werewolf characteristics, his pupils turn yellow and the whites of his eyes turn black; the veins around his eyes also pulse black and two sets of fangs drop.
AURAL—Klaus has a British accent. He is a verbose conversationalist (and manipulator) that will often change his tone and annunciation to put across his point.
DEMEANOR—Klaus is extremely self-assured and radiates an easy, smug confidence. He is not overtly friendly but he is approachable.

Is it evil to take what one wants, to satisfy hunger, even if doing so will cause another suffering? What some would call evil, I believe to be an appropriate response to a harsh and unfair world.
We were innocent once. This bloodlust was forced upon us by our parents, turning us from prey to predator. We are the demons lurking in the shadow; we are the savage villains in fairy tales told to children.
SPECIES
Klaus is an Original vampire, one of the first of his kind, and the first of his own species, a vampire and werewolf hybrid.

PERSONALITY

The world was harsh and cruel to Klaus and so he became both harsh and cruel to not only survive it, but to conquer it. As a child of abuse, he chases a constant need to be the most powerful, for only then might he feel safe and demand unconditional love denied him. This is how Klaus answered Mikael's, his father's, abuse: by becoming like him. By ensuring the world feared him and with that fear, he protected his family. This has shaped him into the person and the monster he's become: impulsive, narcissistic, and ruthless, even and sometimes especially to those he claims to love.

Since the conception of his daughter, Klaus has something to fight for that is not himself; someone to fight for whom he feels complete allegiance and love without doubts or paranoia. Hope is his hope: for family, for acceptance, and for some semblance of a happy life. At heart, through all of Klaus' scheming and cruelty, is still the caring boy who loves his family more than anything else, who merely wants to belong somewhere and be loved. Despite his selfishness and paranoia; despite his predilection to violence as the answer, he can be loving and empathetic. He wants those he cares about to be happy. Many times he has simply let fear rule him instead of love.

As he has for ten centuries, he is willing to do anything for his family. What he does, he does for his daughter, and he does not want his daughter to have the life he had. He wants her to know love and to know how to love like he didn’t. And so he tries to act with love and not fear. He tries to do better for her. He still struggles with his own self-worth, with his blind reliance on cruelty and force and manipulation, and with his ability to be a good father. He is simply willing to sacrifice now what he was never willing to sacrifice before: himself.
Painting is a metaphor for control. Every choice is mine. The canvas, the color. As a child I had neither a sense of the world nor my place in it, but art taught me that one's vision can be achieved with sheer force of will.
