BASIC INFORMATION

Name: Niklaus Mikaelson

Canon: The Vampire Diaries / The Originals

Age: mid-20s (physically) / 1,000+ (actually)

Bio: Over a thousand years ago, there lived a family.

They loved with a fierceness and a desperation that could not be extinguished.

They were Vikings, who travelled to the New World in search of safety from plague and a happy home.

Klaus was a child of seven, but he did not feel loved as the others were loved by his parents; he grew up beaten and abused by their father and manipulated by his mother. From birth, Mikael despised his son. He considered him pathetic, weak, and essentially worthless. For Klaus, a young boy with a good heart, who only desired to love and be loved in return, this was both devastating and altering.

Esther, Klaus' mother, was a very powerful witch. She turned Mikael, Klaus, and his siblings into the first immortal vampires so they could protect themselves from the finality and separation of death. But she also was unfaithful. When Mikael learned that Klaus was born out of the union of Esther and a werewolf from a neighboring village, his father was furious and vindicated. Klaus was a bastard and a werewolf, and therefore an abomination.

She performed a spell to suppress Klaus' werewolf side at Mikael's behest. Spurred by the rage of this betrayal after learning the truth of his parentage and werewolf heritage, Klaus killed his mother and kept this secret from his siblings for centuries out of fear of hatred and abandonment. He hated what he had been made. He wanted the power of what he had become. He wore the monster and found it suited him.

Paranoia continued to haunt him and drive him to extremes, as did the continuing threat of his father. Their father chased he and his siblings down for centuries with the purpose of killing them for being the killers he created. Klaus eventually succeeded in killing him first.

The world was harsh and unfair to Klaus from the beginning and so he became both harsh and unfair to not only survive it, but to conquer it. As a child of abuse, he chases a constant need to be the most powerful, for only then might he feel safe and be able to demand the love denied him. As a monster living in a supernatural world for over a thousand years of bloodshed and war, he likewise prescribes to the belief that only the most powerful may live with any semblance of security; and the most powerful can and should take that security at the detriment and terrorization of others. This is how Klaus answered Mikael’s abuse: by becoming like him. By ensuring the world feared him and with that fear, he protected his family. This has shaped him into the person he's become: calculating, impulsive, narcissistic, and ruthless. As his sister Rebekah puts it, they are broken, damaged things: always and forever cursed to live without hope.

This changed when Klaus learned he was to be a father. Since the birth of his daughter, Klaus has something to fight for that is not himself; someone to fight for whom he feels complete allegiance and love without doubts or paranoia. His daughter Hope is his hope: for family, for acceptance, and for some semblance of a happy life. She is the home Klaus has always longed to create. Because at heart, through all of Klaus' scheming and cruelty, he is still the caring boy who loves his family more than anything else, who merely wants to belong somewhere and be loved. Above all, Klaus wants to create a home. MORE AT APPLICATION.

SYMBIOTE INFORMATION

[RHO] - [FORCE FIELD GENERATION & MANIPULATION]

Klaus is calculating and empathetic. He is ruthless and narcissistic. He is paranoid and searches for the motives of others, mostly because he expects what he knows of himself. He doesn't need to probe inside anyone's mind to find the poor weld or crack to manipulate and exploit; that potential for ally or foe.

That is what people typically are to him: fodder or enemy.

He doesn't care about the hurt nor the harm he causes, not to others and not to himself.

(That is what he chooses, sometimes. He knows better.)

Scrape the surface and there is a richness of terror and love. There are the names of his siblings and of his daughter. He will do anythinganything to get back to her, and he would rip apart everyone who gets in his way. She means everything to him; she is his world. Family is what makes him truly happy. Truly safe. Truly comforted.

He is helpless and uncertain and feels particularly vulnerable and threatened, especially here.

He is angry. Always, always prone to anger and fear, always holding back his impulse to silence and force that which inconveniences him, except when he's not holding back. But it's when he is quiet and detached that he is at his most dangerous.

He is a monster and he revels in it. These are the words he embodies: lesser, manipulator, bastard, and it is all he has ever been told or known. He didn't want to be these things, but he hardens himself to his definitions.

He is used to his loneliness, but he will lash out when he feels abandoned or betrayed. This might be sensible. It most times is not. He misses his family. He drinks and it rarely takes off the edge. He paints to focus his will.

He doesn't want you, but he will use you.

He wants you, and he will use you, if he must.

He doesn't want to care, but he will.

    There are so few exceptions.

Caroline Forbes is one of them.

He's a thousand-years-old and at this age most things, even the serious concerns, amuse him with their quaintness. He's an Original vampire, the first of his kind, and a hybrid, which means he's a werewolf too, and that deserves respect. He's from everywhere and he's crossed paths with Damon Salvatore (waste of space) and Elena Gilbert (he doesn't really see the appeal) a time or two.

His affection for Caroline Forbes is apparent when he is in her presence.

He has a daughter and a family that he loves, and they were all to live in a city he helped rule and build, New Orleans, for a time. That's all fell apart.

He's apathetic and angry and a monster, and any disgust or fear pleases him. The moment he can control insight into his thoughts and mind, he'll be happy to lock everyone out. He's certainly thought a time or two about snapping necks to speed up the process.

    MENTAL LINK
The smell of rain in a green, luscious, ancient wood. Charcoal, cedar. The viscousness of paint, the choice of color. Copper blood on your tongue, the way it seeps into your fingerprints. Drowning in a black, churning sea: rage, terror, uncertainty, and a gasp of hope. That impulse to lash out. The tenderness of bruises. Worthlessness under fists. The choke of a sob as you stifle it. That feeling of comfort when someone takes your hand and doesn't let go.

    PERMISSIONS
Physical Affection: Yes. This is not something Klaus is comfortable with necessarily nor usually employs himself, however. His reaction will vary depending on the character, their relationship, and the circumstances.
Physical Violence: Yes, but let's discuss and plot! Klaus is not one to take things lying down and will also heal near-instantly from any wound. There's also the issue of his "eye-for-and-eye BUT WORSE" approach to life.
Romance/Relationships: Klaus is not looking for romance or a relationship, but would probably not be adverse to a sexual arrangement if there's chemistry and/or an beneficial angle to consider. He always has his sights on Caroline Forbes, so that's something to keep in mind romantically.
    Thread-jacking: Yes.
    Back-tagging: Yes.
    Fourth-walling: No.
    Offensive Subjects/Triggers: No.
Anything Else? Please contact me with any questions or ideas! I am down for pretty much anything.
