[ he was expecting this call to end with her needing the painting taken off her hands. this is almost pleasing. it's after a surprised pause and an intake of breath to answer that he replies: ] I'm certainly not going to regal myself with droll feminist literature. [There's a little humph as he calls it droll feminist literature and if this were video he might see a roll of her eyes. But it's not.]

It isn't droll -- but I'd be willing to take it off your hands, I'm quickly working through my collection of Austen's works.

[ he says it primarily to bother her, if that counts for anything. although also because it is true. revolutionary or not, he found the tale quite tedious. ] Another month here and I might change my mind. Mansfield Park might seem riveting.

It is the most acceptable of her works, but if I were truly desperate I'd hope you'd part with Emma for me.

Of all her works I do think that's the one you would enjoy most. [Or alternately hate the most. There had been a time where she would argue the social satire elements of Austen's works but she's given up that fight a long time ago.]

Sometimes I wonder if the lack of other entertainment is on purpose -- a way to make us more inclined to spend our time "worshiping" as much as possible.

Unfortunately, no. Even if we were to kill some of their worshipers, try to draw them out, from what I understand said worshipers would come back anyway. It makes us less of a threat.

[Which is bothersome, to say the least.]
